What is Sushi? Part 1

Simply Sushi

Sushi, to put it simply, is a Japanese dish comprised of cooked rice with vinegar plus other ingredients - veggies, seafood, sometimes fruit, and sometimes some very creative ingredients. These items can be raw, cooked, or pickled.

All About the Rice

There are many types of sushi, but the common element is rice. Sushi rice is a short-grained variety, and the process for cooking and preparing this rice is a discussion in its own right!

Everybody Loves Sushi!

Contemporary sushi has its origins in the 19th century as a form of "fast food." It could be prepared quickly and eaten with the hands. Today it is extremely popular, and one can find versions of sushi from simple raw fish on rice to overstuffed, fried, and sauced rolls.
